Standard Bank Top Women Conference
I found that there were few resources to aid users in sharing their stories and created a range of diabetic story stickers,
And a range of face filters aimed at showcasing diabetic stories, or simply changing the aesthetics of Diabetes in the media.
This was well received by the community, and allies alike earning Liv a Facebook trendsetter badge and gaining over 46000 impressions. This was accompanied by ongoing Instagram activations such as a doodle challenge where people were asked to challenge grim imagined type 1 futures by learning about Type 1 equipment in a fun way, and using art to destigmatise it.
I then realised that if I wanted people to share their stories, I had to have the courage to do the same. I began constructing posts sharing my story and struggles as well as a host of instagram reels and Tik Toks about the Type 1 experience. This was met with an outpouring of support and connected me to newly diagnosed patients, established diabetics and the South African diabetic influencer circle, gaining upwards of 3000 views on some videos.
Additionally, reels encouraged Type 1 Diabetics to reach out and share their experiences, yearning for community this prompted the growth of our growing Cape Town Diabetic support group. This group then translated to real world meet ups with 2 hikes, a picnic, and a feature in Die Matie.
