Liv Visual Identity
I began to interrogate the perception of Type 1 Diabetes as a shameful, hidden, medical consequence. Similarly, drawing on my own experiences I reflected on the need for a youthful, hopeful brand for a life-long medical condition.I thus dreamed of a brand that would work to change the narrative around chronic illness, embodying the principles of youthful, colourful, honest, defiant, medical and human.
I chose the name Liv for its many lively associations, while remaining a human name, a friend, a confidant, what the Diabetic community has become to me over recent years. Additionally, brand graphics were inspired by medical packaging while bold vector shapes challenged the clinical medical aesthetics. Similarly, the logo was inspired by organic material, blood drops, notions of unity and community as a safe bubble of protection, and a playful energy so sorely lacking in chronic illness spaces.
